WHS Men’s Soccer

3 wins this week!

The JV, coached by David Walker, and the Varsity, coached by Scott Pinto, defeated Preble Shawnee in the Tuesday match and in the Varsity only Thursday match, Waynesville defeated Middletown Madison.

On Tuesday, both JV and Varsity boys’ soccer teams defended their home turf against Preble Shawnee.  JV earned a 7-0 win controlling the game with possession and a great defense!  David Muth and Mario Navarro-Romero both scored two goals.  Tazzden Bailey, Micah Conroy, and Will Kelley each scored one for the Spartans.

The Varsity played a strong first half with senior Jacob Rasey scoring on an assist from senior Daniel Beavers just 2 minutes in.  Sophomore Nik Ball scored with a quick shot between the left post and keeper.  At 20 minutes in the half, senior Ryan Bulcher scored a goal on a Beavers’ assist.  Near the end of the half, junior Aaron McNeeley assisted a second goal by Nik Ball.

The Varsity dominated the second half with Ryan Bulcher scoring his second goal assisted by Jacob Rasey.  Four minutes later, Rasey scores his second goal on a breakaway outrunning the defense.  Sophomore Mac Greely continued to make fantastic corner kicks and throw-ins, and Mason Bone scored with a header from a Greely assist.  Sophomore Jared Greer had an amazing rocket shot on an unassisted goal.

To end the game, Rasey and Bulcher continue their teamwork streak as Bulcher scores his third and fourth goals, both from Rasey’s assists.

Senior Josh Dick, senior Daniel Driscoll, senior Chase Thompson, senior James Schneider, junior Mason Bone, and sophomore Ryan Papanek controlled the back line and shut down the attempts by Preble’s offense.  Senior Gehrig Habermehl made some great saves to own the shut out with senior CJ Conroy as the closer.

The Varsity boys traveled to Middletown Madison on Thursday night.  With a slow start, getting down 0-1, the boys turned it on, possessed the game, and shut out the rest of the Mohawk’s attempts.

The Spartans’ first goal was scored by James Schneider with a great touch on the ball from a Mac Greely free kick, ending the first half with a 1-1 tie.

Jacob Rasey started the second half with a monster shot to the right corner for his first goal.  Daniel Papanek’s corner kick landed on target and after a touch from Nik Ball, Jacob Rasey shot it in for his second goal.  With 15 minutes left in the game, Rasey’s left-footed shot earns him a hat trick for the night.  And in the final two minutes, keeper Gehrig Habermehl intimidates Preble’s keeper by scoring on a penalty kick.

The defense played a physical second half and kept the ball on the Spartans half.  Mason Bone played another amazing defensive game.

Amazing games Spartans!  Way to go!

The Varsity travels to Milton Union on Tuesday, Sept 19 and both JV and Varsity travel to Bishop Fenwick on Thursday, Sept. 21.`
