SPORTS AND BAND UPDATE FOR 10/4/2019

Girls Soccer

The Lady Spartans secured their fifth straight league title after an impressive 11-0 win over Carlisle on Tuesday! They will continue their season in a home match against Bishop Fenwick on Monday and at Dixie on Tuesday. On Thursday the 10th, the team will recognize their seniors in a game against Lehman Catholic. Come out at support the Lady Spartans! 

 

Boys Soccer

The Men's soccer team remains undefeated and on top of the league. They celebrated their seniors last Thursday and beat Maddison 7-0. They also defeated Carlisle 4-0 this Tuesday. The Men's team was away Thursday and came home with their 13-0-0 record clean after a win at Preble Shawnee. Next week is a big week for the Spartans. Tuesday is the final league game the Men's team has at Dixie, but the league title has already been secured. Thursday, however, is against the Alter Knights which is the last game before tournament play for the Spartans. Come and support next Thursday at Alter.

 

Girls Tennis

The girls competed at Sectionals this week in Mason. Ashley Tudela is advancing to finals this Saturday at Mason High School. Good luck to Ashley!

 

Cross Country

At the Kettering Inv., the high school boys started the day with a 4th place finish in the DI race behind highly ranked Conner (KY), 5th ranked Defiance and home team Fairmont and 14 points in front of 21st ranked DI team Kings. Colin Amato and Kaden Harvey lead the way with a 6th and 9th place finish. Next was Denver Johnson in 46th, Trevor Camp in 51st and Caden Adams in 55th. Eli Click tied his PR with a 76th place finish followed by Levi Morgan in 98th, Jackson Berger in 112th, Grant Kazmierski in 130th and AJ Seidenschmidt in the race of 20 teams and 189 runners. In the open race the boys were divided into an 11/12 race and a 9/10 race. In the 11/12 race Stefan Muterspaw lead our team with a 12th place finish followed by Ernie Taylor in 20th, Gavin Price in 90th and Joey Phillips with a season's best time in 96th out of 237 runners. Our freshmen boys placed 11th out of 23 teams lead by Noah Wooldridge finishing in 10th place with a new PR followed by Carson Shutts, also with a PR coming in 53rd place. Next was Ryan Leopold in 66th, Addison Cummins in 69th and David Weaver in 137th out of 307 runners. Our girls finished in 7th place, paced by Hope Erbach's 3rd place finish. Next up was Elizabeth McKeehan in 37th, Cariss Tekeste in 40th, Alyza Camp in 61st, Kate Handle in 67th, Rachel Ingle in 77th, Ava Amato in 85th, Hannah Gill in 118th, Jordan Patterson in 131st, Megan Zidaroff in 134th and Lexi Youtsey in the race of 172 athletes.

 

Volleyball

Both JV and Varsity swept Carlisle on Tuesday night, ensuring their league title. The girls celebrated 4 seniors that evening and held a game against the senior boys after their game against Carlisle. Despite only 4 playing on the court, the senior girls still destroyed their competition.

 

 

 

Football

            Football began league play last week with a sweep over Preble Shawnee. Varsity defeated the Arrows 28-21, moving on to 1-0 in the league. Key players this week for the Spartans were Luke Osborn (TD), Hunter Fillmore (2 TD), Parker Struewing (TD), and Sara O’Conner (2 XP).Varsity football will return to Waynesville on 10/4 for the Homecoming game against Milton-Union.

 JV football won their game Saturday 36-12, also moving to 1-0 in the league. JV will travel on 10/5 to Milton-Union. Kick-off slated for 10AM.

 

Boys Golf 

Sam Warren and Bryce Cumbow both advanced to the District Golf Tournament at Beavercreek Golf Club where they represented Waynesville very well in a tough Division II District that featured several of the area’s top teams and individuals. Congratulations to both golfers and the Waynesville Boys Golf team on another outstanding season! 

 

Junior High Volleyball

The 7th and 8th Grade Waynesville Volleyball teams will play in the SWBL Volleyball Tournament starting tomorrow at Waynesville High School and Middle School. The 8th grade Lady Spartans will face off against Milton-Union at 12:45PM in the Middle School Gymnasium while the 7th grade Lady Spartans will play the Dixie Greyhounds at 3:15 PM in the High School Gymnasium. Come out and support your Lady Spartans in SWBL Tournament play!

 

Junior High Football

The 7th and 8th Grade Waynesville Spartan Football teams took care of business against visiting Dixie this week. The 7th grade won their game by a score of 42-8 while the 8th grade blanked the Greyhounds 49-0. Both teams will travel to Carlisle this coming Wednesday to face the Indians. 7th grade kicks off at 5:00pm with the 8th grade to follow. Good luck Spartans!
