Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
School will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday honoring the life and birthday of one of the most influential civil rights leaders in American history. Although the holiday is observed annually on the third Monday of January, this year is extra special because the holiday falls on King's actual birthday, Jan. 15.
The first national holiday honoring King was celebrated in 1986. But it wasn't until 2000 that all states honored the government holiday. The federal holiday honors the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights leader who dedicated his life to speaking out against injustice, inequality, poverty and war.
