No Jr/Sr High Open House Tonight And Jr/Sr High School Start Date Delayed

Tonight’s Open House for grades 7 – 12 and new student orientation is canceled, and the Junior/Senior High is closed to all students, staff and visitors until further notice.

This week, surface mold was discovered in some classrooms in the high school wing. We conducted an inspection of all spaces in the junior/senior high, and determined that in the interest of the health and safety of our students and staff we needed to close the Junior/Senior High to all students, staff and visitors until we have taken corrective actions.

What Happened?

HVAC controls failed in the high school, causing increased humidity levels.

What are the District’s Next Steps?

We are dedicated to a safe and healthy school environment. We are working closely with a highly respected environmental consultant and health professionals to develop a comprehensive action plan. We will be removing moisture from the rooms, remediating the mold in the rooms, and conducting a deep cleaning of all spaces. School will not reopen until we have conducted air quality tests, and have results that indicate it is safe to do so. The consultant will complete multiple follow-up tests after remediation is complete. This will provide the assurance we need to safely open our doors to students and staff.

What Does This Mean for Jr/Sr High Students?

In order for this comprehensive plan to be fully executed, we need to push back 7th and 9th grade orientation and the start date for 7 -12 students. Tentatively, the first day of school for 7- 12 grade students will be Tuesday, August 23rd. We hope to have the 7th and 9th grade orientation on Monday, August 22nd. Junior/Senior High open house and new student orientation has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

Jamie Manley, Athletic Director, will be communicating to the coaches and athletes regarding athletics.

WCCC and Alternative School Students: A shuttle bus to and from the high school parking lot to the Warren County Career Center and Alternative School will continue as normal.

What Does this Mean for Elementary Students?

The elementary, preschool through 6th grade, will start as originally scheduled.

The 6th grade open house will continue as scheduled this evening.

Despite the setback, we look forward to a great 2022/23 school year and eagerly await the arrival of our students.
