Bereavement Group Support Group
A Call for Students to Participate in a Bereavement Group Support Group
(Grades 7-12)
A representative from Dayton hospice will be running a bereavement/grief group for students grades 7-12. This group would run after school until about 3:30 pm once a week. Our plan is for students to go to The Bridge after school to meet with the counselor for a time of snacks, connection and personal reflection in a relaxed environment. Students who have experienced a significant loss due to death of a parent, sibling, or grandparent with whom they had a close relationship, etc., and are actively grieving are encouraged to participate in this group.
Grief causes emotional, physical, and behavioral responses. Grieving youth need to know that all their feelings are okay, they are not alone in their grief, grief is a normal human experience, what to expect with grief, and finally, coping and self-care skills. Students will learn about the four tasks of grief and explore ways to remember their loved one. Each meeting will focus on a unique aspect of grief designed to promote healing and healthy coping, with an activity to support each topic. Students will receive grief education and have an opportunity to share and support one another.
