Superintendent’s Message
5/3/2013
On Friday, April 12, Supt. Pat Dubbs presented Elementary teachers, Tami Eckhart and Christy Turner, with flowers to recognize them as the 2013 “Project Excellence” award winners at Wayne Local Schools. The honorees will be honored at the Area Progress Council of Warren County, Inc. Project Excellence Banquet on May 1st at the Warren County Career Center. They will also be invited to travel to Columbus with other Project Excellence winners to visit the Capital and meet with available representatives. We asked our honorees “What does Excellence mean to you?” Please read what they had to say.
"'Excellence’ means acting with dedication, heart, and wisdom. A person who exercises excellence does not settle for ordinary; instead, he or she decides how to go about things in an atypical, high-reaching way.”

Tami Eckhart graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Middle Childhood Education. In 2009 she received a Master's degree in Reading along with a Reading Endorsement. Upon graduation, she was hired as a Waynesville Elementary School teacher, teaching 4th and 5th Grades English Language Arts. She has been in the building for four years now, and she couldn't ask for a better place to spend her days. The environment is filled with so much love and support; she feels as though she won the lottery being here. The staff and students are amongst the best in the world, which makes her job an easy one. She gets to spend all her time with sweet kids learning how to read! This is a major reason why she wanted to be a teacher to begin with. She has always loved education and the learning process. As a kid, she spent so much time in her dad's classroom that school became a second home to her. She never wanted to be anything else besides a teacher! ‘Excellence’ means acting with dedication, heart, and wisdom. A person who exercises excellence does not settle for ordinary; instead, he or she decides how to go about things in an atypical, high-reaching way.
“‘Excellence’ means providing a safe and friendly environment where students can reach their full potential. ‘Excellence’ is providing the resources for all students to be successful, whether a student makes small steps or giant leaps.”

Christy Turner graduated from Miami University in May, 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (Gr. 1-8). This school year marks the 20th year that Christy has been teaching at Waynesville Elementary which includes First and Second Grades. In High School she had a fabulous teacher who made learning fun and exciting; she is the person who influenced Christy to go into education. She has truly enjoyed her years here at WES. Our school system is small enough that one gets to know all of the students and build relationships with them. Waynesville is very fortunate to have all of our schools located on the same campus. It is awesome to see former students serve as peers in her classroom. ‘Excellence’ means providing a safe and friendly environment where students can reach their full potential. ‘Excellence’ is providing the resources for all students to be successful, whether a student makes small steps or giant leaps.
